Are You Judging Me?

You see me with my tired eyes and eyebags

That concealer cannot hide

You see that it means I can’t be bothered

You don’t know that I stayed up all night with a teething baby

Are you judging me?

You see me with my hair in a ponytail

Sweaty loose hairs on my forehead

You see that it means I can’t be bothered

You don’t know that I’ve just spent two hours playing with the kids

Are you judging me?

You see me in an old tee shirt and yoga pants

Maybe a stain or two on it

You see that it means I can’t be bothered

You don’t know that I haven’t had time to shop for new things and that I have a baby who spits up on me

Are you judging me?

You see me in my most comfortable footwear (hello flip flops)

You see me with no makeup

You see that it means I can’t be bothered

You don’t know that I can’t handle a toddler and a baby while wearing wedges and that I don’t actually want to wear makeup

Are you judging me?

You see a woman who doesn’t look as chic as you

You see a woman who looks like she forgot how to dress

You see a woman who’s allowing her toddler candy in a grocery store

You see a woman who doesn’t wear makeup

Are you judging her?

I see a mother who does get up and showered and throws on what’s comfortable and practical

I see a mother who puts most thought into her children and how to give them the best day possible, every single day

I see a mother who tries to make sure her pantry is stocked, dinner gets cooked and children get out and about, so what if bribery is involved

I see a mother who’s confident in her looks, her looks as a mother

Are you still judging?

It is so very easy to look at someone and pass judgment. Yes, we should hold ourselves to higher standards, we should always try to feel/ look/ do better. Because when we are better people, we are better parents. But to each her own. Allow each other the freedom to come to a parenting path, a self-loving path, at their own pace. Parenting is hard enough without mud slinging.

This here? This is a judgement-free zone. Take your judging elsewhere.

This post is inspired by The Momalog – read her post here about bitchy mommy bloggers.

Guest Star: Jessica from My Time As Mom

Today is my blog’s one month anniversary! Cool bloggers refer to it as their blogversary. But I’m not that cool, so er, anniversary it is! And because it’s such a special day, I’m taking a break from writing (read: I have no idea what to write, like yesterday, when I wrote a post about a dead lizard instead).

So, I invited one of my favorite bloggers to do me the honor of being my first Guest Star. In the Guest Star series, I’ll be asking my guests to tell us more about themselves, and show you why I love them so!

First up, is Jessica from My Time as Mom!
Jessica is the wanna-be entertaining writer of the blog My Time as Mom which provides an honest take on parenting and family. When she is forced to step away from her laptop she is the official caretaker of 1 husband, 2 adorable girls, and 2 dumb dogs. She is often operating under the influence of sleep deprivation. You can follow her on Twitter and on Facebook.

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging for a 3 week class I took on personal branding. I could have quit after the class but I loved blogging so much that I continued.

What do you like most about blogging?
I like being able to connect with other people and the feeling that I am not alone in my struggles as a SAHM.

Who’s your favorite mommy blogger?

I read A LOT of blogs but I would have to say the blog I make sure I read every day is Mommy is in Timeout by Elena (aka my blogging twin). I love her writing and the fact that she can cook and she does fun things with her kids. I’m not that type of mom at all.

What do you love most about being a mom?
Hugs, kisses, and cuddles. And being able to not work and sleep in late.

What’s your favorite time of the day?

Late at night after everyone has fallen asleep is my absolute favorite time of the day which is why I stay up way past a normal person’s bedtime. This is when I get uninterrupted time to read blogs and write my posts (this seems to be when I write my best stuff). Now, if I could just get everyone in my house to stop snoring so it would be quiet. I hate the sound of snoring.

If you could go anywhere in the world for a week, where would it be and why?

I would go to a land far, far away where I have no responsibilities, no cooking (which I rarely do anyway), and no cleaning (which I also rarely do). Really I don’t care where it is as long as it’s not a war torn country and I can stay in a 5-star hotel.

If you could be a celebrity for a day, who would it be and why?

I would want to be Sandra Bullock even though she is 18 years older than I am. I think she is very down to earth and appears to live a “normal” life in terms of a celebrity.

If your life was made into a movie, who would play you?

My husband said Mira Sorvino or Kate Beckinsale would be the best actresses to play me. When I asked him why he said he thinks Sorvino looks like me and Beckinsale is “hot”.

What song describes you best?

I couldn’t think of an answer to this question so I asked for my ever so useful husband what he thought. However, he was less than helpful because his responses were: Bringing Sexy Back (Justin Timberlake), The Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler), Don’t Want to Miss a Thing (Aerosmith), and She’s Everything to Me (Brad Paisley).

Favorite season: Spring or Fall?
Spring, I’m so ready for warmer weather after winter and the snow. I don’t do well in cold.

What food could you eat every day?
Dark chocolate. Need I say more?

One word to describe you?
Spoiled.

Now you know why she’s so cool. Go show some love and check out her blog, link up with her on Twitter and like her on Facebook!

Watch out for the next installment of Guest Star in May!
