Things I’ll Miss And Things I Won’t

This Listicle is inspired by the late Nora Ephron, who wrote a list of things she’ll miss and things she won’t, in her final book.

Writing this made me a little sad, but it also made me appreciate what I do have and the time I still have, to love and do all the things I will miss.

Starting off with….

Things I Won’t Miss

Traffic

Paperwork

Bills

Telemarketers

Beans

Stupid Facebook updates

Meat

Living in the city

Driving

Noisy toys

Ironing

Sound of sirens

Mosquitoes

Humidity

Vacuuming

And…..

Things I Will Miss

My sons

My husband

Chocolate

Writing

Laughter

Sunsets

Trashy reality TV

Really good TV shows like Downton Abbey and Dexter

Rain

Flowers

The smell of freshly baked bread

Hot showers

Tea

Manicures

Coffee

Books

Grocery shopping

Instagr.am

Music

Cupcakes

Sunshine

What will you miss and what won’t you miss?

I’m Crap

….. at a few things. My personality is stellar, oy.

I’m writing a list post today for Monday Listicles with Stasha of The Good Life because I’m a lazy blogger (according to blogs about blogging – I call BS on that. Lists are AWESOME).

Jessica of Team Rasler, inspired by Jessica of My Time As Mom, suggested we list down what we’re rubbish at.

Easy enough!

  1. I’m really terrible at applying make up. I once went to a wedding wearing a dark blue dress and applied what I thought was a subtle gold/ brown eye shadow that would match the gold details on my dress. I saw a picture of myself later and it looked like a 5 year old used brown crayon and dragged marks across my eye lids. WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME?
  2. Talking to children. I know, I’m a mother, I should nail this. But I’m just awkward around other people’s kids aged 4 and above. I just don’t know what to say to them. Give me a baby anytime, I’ll cuddle the hell out of them.
  3. Craft of any kind. I believe I may glue gun my fingers together if I tried.
  4. Sewing. I can manage sewing a button back, even patch a torn seam. But, the buttons fall off after a month and the seams tear open after a week. And sewing machines scare me.
  5. Drawing. I’m a stick figure kind of girl. I still draw stuff on this blog though. Bad drawings = good blog fodder.
  6. Playing Wii Tennis. I played once with my husband and hit NOTHING. I like to think his trash talking had something to do with my lack of concentration and ability.
  7. Painting my own nails. Paying someone to pretty up my nails for me is something I’ve indulged in for years. Don’t judge.
  8. Dancing. I have no coordination. It’s laughable really. And no, I’m not demonstrating it. Ever.
  9. Anything to do with cars. I can drive and park one, fill up gas and I do know if there’s something wrong with it (can’t really argue with funny sounds, right?). But I can’t change a tire, nor do I know what spark plugs or carburetors do, and that’s about the extent of my car knowledge.
  10. Home improvement anything. Don’t give me a power tool, I might harm you.

What are you really crap at? Be honest.

11 Questions and Answers

You may be aware of this sudden tagging phenomenon going on in the bloggy world the past couple of weeks. Lo and behold, I was tagged 3 times.

That’s 33 different questions to answer and honestly, you’ll be deathly sick of me by the time I come to answer question 7.

So what did I do?

I went to random.org and generated 11 random numbers from 1 to 33 and these came up.

5, 6, 7, 13, 15, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29

Hence I will answer questions 5, 6 and 7 from the first blogger who tagged me (Ado from The Momalog), questions 2, 4 and 10 from blogger #2 who tagged me (Shannon from mynewfavoriteday) and questions 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 from the final blogger who tagged me (Jennifer from Just Jennifer).

Confused yet? Good, that’s my intention. If you think I made that up just so I can say, “I did not pick my favorite questions, it’s entirely random, dude!” – you may or may not be right.

Here goes.

11 Questions and Answers

From Ado:

1. What’s your favorite book? Why?

This is a tough one. I’ve read hundreds, if not thousands of books in my 30 something years. If you asked me 10 years ago, my answer would be different. So I’ll go with the most recent book I enjoyed – Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns). Mindy (Kelly Kapoor from The Office) is funny, sweet and I wish I was her best friend and hanging out with her. I’m terrible at reviewing books, so I’ll just leave it at this – I laughed, and laughed hard at many parts in the book. And I finished it in 2 days, which is saying a lot. Thank you, KLZ, for recommending this gem.

2. What’s in your fridge?

Right now, my husband is away. Which means I don’t need to cook gourmet meals for a week – translation: there’s not much in way of food in there.

The (incomplete) list of items in my fridge:

Full cream milk, chocolate milk (for the toddler – don’t judge, he doesn’t like the taste of milk), a can of Coke (my husband’s), three cans of chrysanthemum tea,  vanilla yogurt, three oranges, two lemons, two yellow bell peppers, vanilla essence, mint essence, chocolate and  chocolate ice cream.

There, a pregnant woman’s fridge contents. Look away now.

3. Do you make your bed every day? Do your kids make theirs? Why/why not?

Yes, I do. I need everything in my house to look as it should and unmade beds drive. me. crazy. If I could get the toddler to make his bed, trust me, I would.

From Shannon:

4. What is the last vacation you went on, where did you go and who with?

All the details are here, where I talk about snot. A lot. In case you don’t want to click over, I went to Western Australia with my husband and the toddler a few weeks ago. We went to two beach locations, Mandurah and Scarborough Beach.

5. What is your favorite movie?

I haven’t watched a movie in AGES. So I honestly can’t name one. I love action thrillers though.

6. Best piece of advice for a new blogger, go!

Oh hey, I’ve written a post about this! Out of the 10 tips there, 3 things I would highlight are: Be yourself. Write from your heart. Read and comment meaningfully on other blogs.

From Jennifer:

7. What would your dream house look like?

Like this.

8. Obviously you love blogging, but is there anything about it you don’t like? Be honest.

I don’t like meaningless blog hops, where blogs are expected to follow each other and that’s that. I also detest word verification and Captcha.

9. What would your death row last meal be?

I love Japanese food, so I’ll have an appetizer of a California maki. I also love Thai food, so I’ll go for a green curry chicken with rice for my main course. For dessert, refer to my Pinterest Sweet Tooth board – I want to eat ALL of it.

10. Facebook or Twitter? Why?

Do you mean which I prefer? Or which I want to strangle with my bare hands?

I like Twitter for obvious reasons.

I think Facebook has its uses, it’s the users that annoy me sometimes.

11. Coke or Pepsi? Why?

I don’t drink either. Carbonated drinks make me burp.

Gosh, this post is getting LONG. And I’m still not done. Because I have to post….

The Rules:

  • You must post these rules. (Okay, bossy)
  • Each person must post 11 things about herself on their blog. (Answering 11 questions do not cover this?)
  • Answer the questions the “tagger” listed for you in her post, and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer. (I’m one of those terrible, terrible people who don’t forward chain letters, so I will break this tag right here and not torture you with 11 questions. Read: I could not come up with 11 questions.)
  • Choose 11 people to tag and link to them in the post. (Read above.)
  • Let each blogger know that you have tagged them. (I’m a rule breaker.)
Alright, I am done. Thank you, I’ll see you when my fingers heal from typing this long ass post.

Okay, I actually do have ONE question: gummy bears or candy floss (or cotton candy)? Why?
