Things I’ll Miss And Things I Won’t

This Listicle is inspired by the late Nora Ephron, who wrote a list of things she’ll miss and things she won’t, in her final book.

Writing this made me a little sad, but it also made me appreciate what I do have and the time I still have, to love and do all the things I will miss.

Starting off with….

Things I Won’t Miss

Traffic

Paperwork

Bills

Telemarketers

Beans

Stupid Facebook updates

Meat

Living in the city

Driving

Noisy toys

Ironing

Sound of sirens

Mosquitoes

Humidity

Vacuuming

And…..

Things I Will Miss

My sons

My husband

Chocolate

Writing

Laughter

Sunsets

Trashy reality TV

Really good TV shows like Downton Abbey and Dexter

Rain

Flowers

The smell of freshly baked bread

Hot showers

Tea

Manicures

Coffee

Books

Grocery shopping

Instagr.am

Music

Cupcakes

Sunshine

Writing lists

What will you miss and what won’t you miss?

I love your photo collage. And for some reason, this post makes me really nostalgic and weepy :)

    • Alison says:

It made me a little weepy writing it! Because writing it down makes my mortality so much more real, y’know? (not that I was ever deluded enough to think I’ll live forever)

  2. Lance says:

    we have similar interests

I think there’s music whereever you go or whatever you believe in.

If you’ve hurt people or been horrible, you get to listen to Nickelback and Ke$ha.

  3. Ado says:

Oh I love your list. You could’ve written mine for me! I love the adorable photo collage. (-:
    PS: Are you veggie?
PSPS: Would you *really* miss living in the city? I picture you living (in Oz, of course…) at least in proximity to a city. Can’t picture you out in cow pokeville, with no access to shoe stores, somehow….

    • Alison says:

      Thank you my friend!
No, I’m not vegetarian now, but I was for 2 years from the age of 21. I don’t eat much meat now and realize I could give it up (though I won’t because I like options).
I won’t miss KL for sure. When we move to Australia, we want to be a little away from the city centre, but close enough to shops and stuff. A little compromise :)

  4. Galit Breen says:

Ohmyheart, I love this listicle topic! {Hat tip Stasha!}.

I’m tempted to post more than once this week just so I can do it, too! Gasp.

Your lists are perfect :) I will absolutely not miss stupid facebook updates. And so funny that grocery shopping made my other list.

  7. Brandy says:

I love your list — I had no idea that anyone still ironed. I don’t even think I own an iron – if it can’t be wrinkle free by spending 10 minutes in the dryer, I don’t own it :) I’d miss writing lists too!

    Cupcakes. Perfect!

Coming up with my lists had me a little sad too. Great exercise.

Writing was a good one too. I wish I had included that as well in my What I will miss list.

    • Alison says:

You can always add it in :)

And this was a great exercise – makes me realize I need to spend more time focusing on things I will miss rather than things I won’t.

  13. Christine @ Love, Life, Surf says:

I love your list! I pretty much would have many of the same on both of my lists. Is it odd that I don’t even notice the sound of sirens anymore? Maybe I’ve been living in NYC for too long.
