I Am…..A Poem

I loved doing this poem, using this template. Thank you Mama Kat, for a great prompt.

I am calm and bold
I wonder how long I’ll feel this way
I hear the waves of the ocean
I see the blue, blue sky
I want to feel this way forever
I am calm and bold

I pretend to lie on my back and watch the seagulls fly
I feel light and free
I touch my children’s warm hands
I worry about the big bad world
I cry to think that my children’s hearts will one day be broken
I am calm and bold

I understand that life is challenging
I say go big or go home
I dream of a wonderful future for my family
I try to be the best wife and mother I can be
I hope that they know that
I am calm and bold

I wrote this in 10 minutes, filling in the blanks of the template with the first things that came to mind. So, anyone can be a poet yes?

Love it, Alison. I also would interject that this poem will speak to *all* mothers (even if they’ve never been to the ocean) but the descriptions of your feelings are so spot-on and universal.

I love the line that says “I am calm and content.” I’m trying to focus on slowing down and being content in my own life…it’s easy to get caught up in wanting more, but I have so much to be thankful for. Hopefully I’ll be able to put that on an “I am” poem about myself one day in the future. :)
