Physicalness

Do you know the physicalness of children?

The not-big-not-small toddler hands.

The slight heaviness of a baby’s head on your shoulder.

The lean strong legs of a boy running towards you.

The adorable baby fingers that clutch your hair.

The tangible love of your children when they throw their arms around you.

When they slobbery kiss you.

When they coo and giggle when they see you.

I write about that and more at World Moms Blog today. Come visit?

Comment on World Moms Blog this month of September, and you could win an autographed copy of Confessions of A Scary Mommy by Jill Smokler (aka Scary Mommy)! Good reason to go read and comment on my post today, right?

The Loves of His Life

For the first year of his life, my son had no particular attachment to anything (other than me, ahem). He did not latch onto a soft toy, a blanket or a toy truck. He had no lovey. Ack!

I did my best. I thought with a lovey, he might be able to go to sleep without being attached to my chest as much. Hence, I introduced this handsome fellow to him when he was 8.5 months old.

Yes, he of the spiky hair and chunky thighs.

He humored me by allowing some photos with the tiger (whose name I shall not reveal, it’s in Arabic and it’s not exactly a family-friendly word – courtesy of my husband, who thinks it’s funny. Sigh). However, he didn’t take Tiger to bed, or drag him around the house or insist he come along for trips.

So he continued to love just me. He did like his blue blanket which covered him nightly, but it wasn’t a lovey as such.

Until he was weaned at 18 months and was introduced to his own bed. We put the tiger in there along with his blue blanket, and lo and behold, an attachment finally formed.

Now, they’re all inseparable.

Kissing the tiger good morning.

Hanging out with the tiger and his favorite blue blanket. In the middle of the day.

Does your child have a lovey? Tell me and Christine from Quasi Agitato all about it! She’s hosting a linky for loveys, how cute is that?

Throat Punch Thursday: The Me Edition

Yes, I’m giving myself a Throat Punch this Thursday.

I deserve it.

For being a total asshat.

For whining all over Twitter about what a hard week this has been with the toddler.
